I think about Ender Wiggin whenever I knock back a Zerg assault, or punt my Weighted Companion Cube into the nearest portal. I also think of him whenever a 12-year-old hands me my ass in Team Fortress 2.
It’s hard to imagine a future where we don’t use video games and 3D simulations to train our soldiers. Anyone who has ever taken on their nephew at Super Mario Brothers already knows that 12-year-old boys may be the only ones with the twitch reflexes and mad exploit skillz needed to battle something like the Buggers.
So the next time you’re trying to decide between that gravity hammer and the frag grenade, ask yourself: Are we really all that far from turning xenocide into just one more unlockable achievement?
lyrics
Too evil;
Too gentle.
Breed again and give them what they need.
Your perfect
Third child.
They know what I must be.
Last hellish hope for Man’s salvation.
The winner takes it all.
Tin soldier, made from fear and shame.
Tin soldier, shaped by lies and pain.
I’m a tin soldier, weapon more than child.
A gun to point whichever way they choose.
They’ve nothing left to lose.
Teach hardness,
Teach horror,
Teach children how to hate in fun.
What’s worth this?
Don’t worry –
I’ll know before they’re done.
How many children’s lives were wasted?
How many lies were told (for a)
Don’t bother
Explaining.
I never want to hear it all.
Just tell me
I mattered
Somewhere beneath it all.
Or was I just a cold equation?
All part of the big game (for a)
I’ve nothing left to lose.

Most of Leslie's songs are pretty cool. Purchasing the album on bandcamp gave me the chance of sending her a few bucks for listening to all her stuff on Youtube ;-) alrunia
During the pandemic, I've been filking online with my parrot, Basil, chirping along from my shoulder. Kanef. suggested that I add Strange Messenger to our repertoire. I hadn't heard it, but when I found you on Bandcamp, I loved it, (and the entire album). And every time I cover Strange Messenger, people are delighted to hear it. Debora VanHeyningen
